Summer Fest in Fisherville a Big Hit!

This past Sunday, July 24th, the first ever Summer Fest in Fisherville was held at Floyd's Fork Park. It was a great celebration of the local area featuring local vendors, fresh produce, great food, fantastic music, and plenty of fun for the kids.

Thank you to everyone who supported this event by attending, sponsoring, presenting, volunteering, and organizing. It was a great success for Fisherville!

Fishervillian Mike Farmer Races to Beat Cancer

Long-time Fisherville resident Mike Farmer is training for the 2011 Bike to Beat Cancer to be held on September 24, 2011. This is a 35-, 65-, or 100-mile bike ride through beautiful bluegrass country benefiting the Norton Cancer Institute.

Mike and his fellow participants have already been training for months to prepare for the physical and mental demands of such a challenge. However, all of his long hours of peddling will be rewarded with the beautiful scenery, new friends, the cheering fans, a feeling of accomplishment, and the satisfaction of knowing he has helped a great cause.

Being a three-time cancer survivor himself, Mike would like everyone to help with this great cause and remember those who have been touched by cancer. He is asking everyone, including his Fisherville friends and neighbors, to help him in his mission.

Mike says:

I again will be participating in the Bike to Beat Cancer this year. Last year I raised over $3,500 thanks to everyone's generosity and support.

  I RIDE to help others find a cure for Cancer.
  I RIDE for my family and friends who have or have had Cancer, and in the memory of those who we have lost to Cancer.
  I RIDE because I am a three time Cancer survivor.

I ask for your support to help beat Cancer by donating for your family members and friends whose lives have been touched by Cancer.
My Bike to Beat Cancer jersey has many cancer survivors signatures and also in memory the names of those who we have lost to this
dreaded disease.

Shelby County Fair

Fisherville Residents, don't miss the Shelby Co. Fair! It runs through Saturday, June 25th and has plenty of food and rides, plus a wonderful, world class horse show starting at 7pm each night. Plus, on Friday and Saturday night, there is a rodeo!

The fair is located in nearby Shelbyville, KY at Shelby Co. Fairgrounds on the corner of US60 and 53.

Summer Fest in Fisherville will be a family festival with fun for everyone. There will be over 20 Farmers’ Market vendors, a bluegrass band, Bob Hill’s presentation on Floyds Fork, 21st Century Parks update, a magician, crafts, food, and many exhibits. 5,600 sq.ft. under tents in addition to over 2000 sq.ft. of vendor booths.

2011 FFEA Floyd's Fork Creek Sweep - 20 years of Success!

9.18 TONS of trash was removed by awesome volunteers at the 20th year of the Annual Floyds Fork Creek Sweep! Floyds Fork Environmental Association (FFEA) wants to thank the 125 who showed up to help; they made a very real difference! Some volunteers have participated every single year. Since 1991, 105 tons has been removed by volunteers! We traditionally hold the canoe/kayak outing and cleanup the first Saturday in June with the help of Councilmen Stuart Benson and Robin Engel. Everyone appreciated Greg Fischer taking time to be with us last year as a candidate and this year as our Mayor. Also, thanks to the media and photographers for showcasing some of the wonderful volunteers who performed such an amazing feat! There were many exciting stories shared about their adventure! FFEA encourages the public to practice proper disposal instead of using our waterway as a dump because it takes a lot of work and effort to remove items.

Take a look at the proposed Spaghetti Junction
The ORBP recently released a rendering of the new Spaghetti Junction. Check it out now. While its worlds better than it was, it still has major issues. It still requires tolls on I-65 and will create greater bottlenecks at Hospital Curve and the Cochran Tunnel. We need less, not more Spaghetti.

- Some canoes provided free to use with life jackets and paddles by calling 267-6883 or emailing teenahal@aol.com to make a reservation now for a canoe (paddles and life vests furnished, too) but on a first come, first served basis. Be sure to say how many persons will be volunteering. Also notify us if necessary to cancel.
- Additional volunteers who have canoes & kayaks are encouraged to bring them; please let us know you are coming and how many persons – usually 2-3 persons per canoe.
- Walkers on foot are assigned cleanup areas.
