Summer Fest in Fisherville a Big Hit!

This past Sunday, July 24th, the first ever Summer Fest in Fisherville was held at Floyd's Fork Park. It was a great celebration of the local area featuring local vendors, fresh produce, great food, fantastic music, and plenty of fun for the kids.

Thank you to everyone who supported this event by attending, sponsoring, presenting, volunteering, and organizing. It was a great success for Fisherville!

Here is some very basic historical information regarding the area according to Wikipedia:

Fisherville is a neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky centered along Taylorsville Road & Finchville Road. It was originally named Curreys after Edward Currey, who opened a post office in 1833. In 1847, it was renamed after Robert Fisher who had died two years earlier and operated a mill on Floyds Fork with his father, John. The area became more commercial in the late 1800s and early 1900s due to the opening of railroad tracks and the discovery of a mineral water well. Visitors came for the therapeutic value of the mineral water, but when the well went dry in 1914 the area began its reversion to being a primarily residential area.

What is Fisherville?

Fisherville, KY is technically an area anchored by a post office.  The zipcode is 40023.  It extends into 3 counties - Jefferson (Louisville), Spencer, and Shelby.  It is not a city.  It has not government, police force, fire department, or school system of its own.  It is merely an area inside of the city of Louisville.

We often refer to the "Fisherville Area" as a broader area which includes part of 40299, 40245, and 40291.  The area encompasses much of the rural areas in the southest corner of Louisville, including the Floyd's Fork watershed areas.

Whatever you call the area, we are all tied together by the fork and our common interest in preserving the natural beauty and rural charm.

Rural Louisville

Fisherville is the southeast corner of Louisville, KY.  Located just minutes from east Louisville, Taylorsville Lake Recreation Area, and Shelbyville, KY, Fisherville is an ideal location for those who love the space with city amenities.  Fisherville's prime feature is Floyd's Fork which winds through much of the area.  At night, the skies are starry and dark, something that is hard to find close to a major metropolis.   The rolling hills are full of farms, large lot subdivisions, forests, and wildlife. 

Recently, this area has become the cornerstone of a new award winning greenway plan that will contain many new parks, conservation areas, hiking trails, horseback riding areas, canoeing, and much more.  Connecting the system will be Louisville's new 100-mile Loop Trail.  While we are excited by the prospect of such a nice development, many of us are working with planners to make sure that the health and characteristics of the area are preserved.  We do this by encouraging responsible development with adequate roadways, protection of Floyd's Fork, preservation of old growth forests, minimal light pollution, and proper management of drainage and sewage treatment.

I have created FishervilleKY.com in an attempt to bring together the residents that are spread so far apart in this countryside.  While we live out here to enjoy the natural beauty, I feel many of us really live in the city and this is just where we sleep at night. My goal with this website is to help Fisherville become a place where we can not only live, but work and play as well!
